Hong Kong athlete wins first gold at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

(ECNS) -- Lydia Sham Hui-yu captured Hong Kong SAR's first gold medal of the Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games on Monday, winning the women's changquan competition with a score of 9.713.

Sham, one of two flag bearers for the Hong Kong delegation, delivered a precise and powerful routine to secure the title. The victory marked a breakthrough moment for Hong Kong's athletes at this year's Games.

This is Sham's third Asian Games appearance. In July, she won silver in the women's changquan event at the 2026 IWUF Taolu World Cup, underscoring her consistency at the highest level. At Nagoya, she competed solely in the changquan discipline, focusing all her preparation on the event.

Her gold medal not only gave Hong Kong its first toppodium finish of the Games but also highlighted the region's growing strength in wushu, a sport that blends artistry and athleticism.
