Chinese writer Dong Xi receives Malaysia's Tengkolok friendship award

(ECNS) -- Chinese writer Dong Xi has received a Malaysian award recognizing his contribution to literary and cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia.

The award was presented Saturday during the 23rd China–ASEAN Expo by Malaysia's Han Culture Center. Dong is the ninth recipient of the honor, which has previously been given to Chinese writer Liu Zhenyun.

Malaysian Datuk and President of Han Culture Center Malaysia Goh Hin San presented Dong with a traditional Tengkolok, a ceremonial Malay headdress traditionally made from folded embroidered silk.

The award recognizes foreign individuals who have promoted exchanges between Malaysia and China in areas including literature, culture, publishing and translation.

Dong has worked to strengthen regular exchanges between writers from Guangxi and Malaysia's Chinese‑language literary community. Writing under his real name Tian Dailin, he is a prominent contemporary Chinese author. His novel Echo won the Mao Dun Literature Prize, one of China's top literary honors, in 2023.

His other honors include the Lu Xun Literature Award and the Shi Nai'an and Wu Cheng'en Literature Awards. His works have been translated into several languages and published internationally.
