(ECNS) -- China had 5.29 million licensed (assistant) physicians by the end of 2025, surpassing the target set in the 14th Five-Year (2021-2025) Plan, the National Health Commission announced on Wednesday, commemorating the ninth Chinese Doctors’ Day.
The medical workforce has also grown in quality, with the proportion of doctors holding graduate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and senior professional titles all increasing compared with 2012.
In 2025, the total number of medical consultations in China exceeded 10.6 billion. These advancements have helped bringing key health indicators for Chinese residents to their best levels in history, placing the country among the top ranks of middle-to-high-income nations with populations exceeding 100 million.
