(ECNS) -- Five people were killed and 17 others injured after a wall collapsed in southwest China's Sichuan Province, local authorities said Wednesday.
The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in a village in Changning County, according to the local emergency management bureau.
An investigation into the accident revealed that a villager was hosting a courtyard banquet at home, and excessive water accumulated on a temporary rain shelter caused the wall that anchored the shelter to collapse, said the bureau.
The incident claimed three lives at the scene, and two more victims succumbed to their injuries despite medical intervention. Another 17 injured people remain under medical treatment.
