Suqian in Jiangsu Province pilots factory‑prefabricated installation for distribution network transformer areas

State Grid Suqian Power Supply Company carried out its first integral hoisting operation for factory‑prefabricated power distribution transformers at the renovation site for the overloaded Baiding No.5 Transformer Area in Peiwei, Siyang, Suqian, Jiangsu Province. A complete distribution transformer unit was put in place in merely one hour.

Conventional construction of transformer areas — including erecting supports, hoisting transformers, installing distribution boxes, making cable terminals, wiring and commissioning — typically takes at least four hours.

Earlier this year, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. launched a pilot program for prefabricated distribution transformers at Suqian Power Supply Company. With factory‑based prefabrication, most procedures are completed in workshops in advance. Only integral hoisting and minor interface restoration work are required on‑site, cutting construction time to around one hour.

Previously, tasks such as support assembly, transformer mounting and cable‑terminal fabrication had to be performed on utility poles, resulting in long‑duration high‑altitude operations and considerable safety risks. Prefabricated assembly enables core procedures to be finished on the ground in factories, reducing high‑altitude workload by more than 80%.

Key processes including cable terminal fabrication and wire fastening are standardized on assembly lines, free from weather or workspace constraints, with each module undergoing strict quality inspection before leaving the factory.
