The 6th China International Import Expo kicked off in east China's Shanghai on Sunday, with many cutting-edge medical technologies and new products making their debuts at the event.
Weighing only 205 grams, the innovative Vscan Air is a wireless, handheld, pocket-sized ultrasound system that enables rapid scanning and delivers crystal-clear images. The device can connect to a smartphone app to read the ultrasound and make a quick diagnosis. Launched by General Electric, it expands ultrasound to various clinical scenarios, including examining elderly people in the community and assisting with a fast examination in an emergency.
As a treatment for obesity, the gastric balloon system also graces the 6th CIIE. The deflated gastric balloon is inserted through the esophagus and into the stomach. The balloon is then filled with a sterile saline solution. For the next few months, the Orbera balloon is inside someone's stomach, controlling appetite and re-training the brain to better anticipate when the stomach is full. According to its developer, more than 300,000 people have received this treatment worldwide.
