Tongzhou District, the sub-center of Beijing, is located about 20 kilometers east of Tiananmen Square.
Facing the plain of the Bohai Sea Rim and located at an important traffic hub of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province, Tongzhou boasts an advantageous geographic position.
At the beginning of 2022, Tongzhou held a press conference, announcing that 115 major projects would be launched, involving infrastructure, livelihood, industry, and public administration.
In the coming years, Tongzhou will mainly carry out three major functions: It will make efforts to cure the "urban diseases" and help realize "multiple centers" rather than just "one center" of Beijing; it will take on administrative institutions and public service departments to relieve non-capital functions, moving business, culture, and exhibition sectors out of downtown Beijing; and it will play a guiding role in coordinating the development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
Beijing is accelerating the implementation of Municipal Administrative Center Planning. The Canal Business District has been built; the greening rate continues to increase, the forest coverage rate has exceeded 33%, and municipal enterprises have settled in succession; the supporting facilities for public services such as medical care and education have been continuously improved; and the Beijing's Municipal Administrative Center Station, the largest underground comprehensive transportation hub in Asia, will be built soon.
Reform and innovation are gaining momentum in Beijing as the blueprint of a new sub-center turns into reality, truly creating a "City of the Future"!
