Intelligent mobile charging robots will be put into use in several expressways leading to Shanghai during the week-long National Day holiday starting Tuesday, which is expected to make new energy vehicle charging more convenient and efficient during the peak traveling period.
The charging robots to be launched at the service areas of expressways including the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway can charge new energy vehicles up to 80 percent of their capacity within half an hour at the parking space, according to the State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Co.
Long queues are frequently seen at expressway service areas on major holidays as new energy vehicles become popular among car owners.
Currently, there are a total of 144 charging piles at Shanghai's 26 highway service areas, and the charging volume is projected to grow 30 percent year-on-year during the upcoming National Day holiday.
During the same period of last year, Shanghai's highway service areas received 1.68 million vehicles per day, and the charging volume amounted to 267,300 kilowatt-hours.
