(ECNS) -- A Chinese man surnamed Li was sentenced to death in a first-instance trial for the murder of his 22-year-old former girlfriend, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Anqing Intermediate People's Court.
Following the verdict, the victim's mother said she was satisfied with the court's decision, adding the defendant did not apologize and plans to appeal.
According to previous reports, Lin said her daughter's last words were: "Lin, I did nothing wrong to you."
Lin was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in October 2023. After the case, she suffered a severe emotional blow and suspended her chemotherapy treatment.
The indictment issued by the Anqing Municipal People's Procuratorate stated that Lin, born in 2001, met the victim online in 2018. They confirmed a romantic relationship at the end of 2022 but broke up in late August 2024 due to relationship disputes.
Believing that the victim was unfaithful, Lin killed her.
