(ECNS) -- A fully autonomous humanoid robot developed by Chinese company DOBOT has begun operation at the K11 Art House cinema in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, according to Shenzhen News Sunday.
This deployment is recognized as the world's first instance of a humanoid robot working fully autonomously in a complex setting.
The robot can work continuously for up to 14 hours straight inside the cinema, independently producing and selling more than 1,000 cups of popcorn per day. The entire process requires no human assistance, pre-programmed routes, or remote control.
Notably, the robot is also able to handle unexpected disturbances. For example, if the popcorn in a cup is spilled, the robot can recognize the change in status and proactively refill it. During the filling process, if someone moves the popcorn cup, the robot can autonomously re-identify its position and successfully complete the grasping task.
