(ECNS) -- China's permanent representative to the United Nations Zhang Jun on Tuesday addressed the United Nations Security Council on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, saying that dialogue and negotiations are the only way to peace.
Russia and Ukraine have held multiple negotiations. China welcomes both sides to insist on negotiations to overcome differences in an all-round way, said Zhang Jun, adding that the international community should create conducive conditions for political settlement of the crisis and should not add fuel to the fire.
China pays much attention to humanitarian issues in Ukraine and supports all initiatives and actions to mitigate a humanitarian crisis in the country, said Zhang.
"China has and will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and its neighbors,” he said.
The envoy also pointed out that China does not seek geopolitical interests in Russia's war against Ukraine and won’t stand by with folded arms or add fuel to the fire.
"China expects only one thing in the Ukraine crisis, which is peace,” said Zhang, adding that China will continue to promote negotiations between the two sides and play a constructive role.
