(ECNS) – The 7th Genes & Diseases International Symposium and the 2026 International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application (Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan Provinces and Xizang Autonomous Region) Symposium on Biomedical Sciences were held at Chongqing Medical University on Friday.
Nearly 200 overseas experts from Sweden, the United States, Australia and other countries, as well as domestic representatives, attended the meetings.
The symposium is themed "Journal-led, Dual-mentor Empowerment: Building a New Industry-Education-Research-Application Ecosystem for Biomedicine." It is one of the events marking the 70th anniversary of Chongqing Medical University.
Yuan Jun, deputy secretary of the CPC Committee and vice president of Chongqing Medical University, said in his address that over the past 70 years, the university has become a nationally influential hub for medical education, a source of medical science and technology innovation, and a provider of high-quality medical services.
Yuan said biomedicine has become an important field in global technological competition. The symposium, by combining the development of high-level scientific journals with international industry-education-research-application cooperation, is of great significance.
Yuan hoped experts would use the event to strengthen exchanges and cooperation among universities, research institutes and enterprises in China and abroad, promote the deep integration of the education, talent, innovation and industrial chains, deepen international cooperation, and contribute wisdom and strength to the high-quality development of the biomedical industry.
Prof. T.-C. He (Tong-Chuan He), co-editor-in-chief of Genes & Diseases, said innovation in biomedicine is a systematic interaction among basic research, clinical translation, industrial application and talent cultivation.
He said that Southwest China has rich clinical resources, a solid industrial base, and growing research strength. He hoped the symposium would further pool academic, talent and industrial resources in Southwest China, deepen international exchanges and cooperation, and jointly build an open, collaborative and sustainable industry-education-research-application ecosystem.
The symposium includes parallel sessions on general medicine, stomatology and the dual-mentor program. Experts, international journal editors, university research teams, faculty and students held face-to-face discussions on biomaterial research and development, as well as collaborative talent cultivation.
