(ECNS) -- The second phase of the Ezhou Airport Expressway in central China's Hubei Province opened to traffic on Friday, adding a key link to the fast-growing cargo hub's road transport network.
The 36.452-km expressway is expected to improve cargo collection and distribution at Ezhou Huahu International Airport, Asia's largest dedicated cargo airport, further strengthening Hubei's role as an inland gateway to global markets.
A logistics worker, surnamed Liu, welcomed the opening. He said that it used to take nearly an hour to transport goods from Daye City to Huahu Airport because of the detours, noting that now, it takes less than 20 minutes via the second phase of the Ezhou Airport Expressway.
The expressway features six lanes, three in each direction, with a maximum speed limit of 120 kph. It begins in Chenqiao Village of Echeng District, and ends with the planned Jiangxia-Liangzihu section of the Wuhan metropolitan area ring expressway.
Ezhou Huahu International Airport is Asia's first and the world's fourth dedicated cargo hub airport. Together with Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, it forms Hubei's dual-airport system for passenger and cargo transport, serving as an air gateway linking the inland province with international markets.
