(ECNS) -- As of Monday afternoon at the World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China has secured 13 gold medals, more than its previous total of nine, along with three silvers and one bronze. The golds come from underwater sports, muaythai, and trampoline events, with more than half the competition still remaining.
The first day saw China excel in para freediving. Long Dengxi won gold at the men's dynamic no-fins (FFS1–FFS2) event, while Huang Shiyu took gold in the women's dynamic with-fins (FFS1–FFS2).
In the women's 4x100m finswimming surface relay, Team China, comprising Shu Chengjing, Xu Yichuan, Xie Wenmin and Hu Yaoyao staged a thrilling comeback in the final leg, overtaking leaders Colombia to defend their title with a time of 2:36.06.
Despite rainy conditions, waterski and wakeboard events concluded with Xu Lu winning gold in the women's wakeboard freestyle and Zhuang Tiancai taking silver in the men's wakesurf skim.
In Muaythai, China secured two of the six titles. Liu Xiaohui won gold in the women's 48kg event, defeating Thailand's Kullanat Aonok by 30 - 27, while Han Xin took the women's 60kg title with a narrow 29-28 over Turkey's Kubra Kocakus after trailing in the first round.
Chinese Olympic champion Hu Yicheng and Asian champion Zhang Xinxin narrowly defeated a Japanese pair to win gold in the women's synchronised trampoline, scoring 51.340 to win by less than a point.
Monday, 24 more gold medals will be up for grabs at the World Games 2025.
