A man in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, was punished with 15 days in detention for illegally modifying his car to resemble a fire department vehicle.
The man, surnamed Lin, was caught after police received a report of a suspicious vehicle that looked like a fire department vehicle. The paint on the vehicle was rough and the license plate did not have anti-counterfeiting marks.
Police investigation revealed that the vehicle was actually a private car owned by Lin. This was not the first time Lin had been caught modifying his car. Two months earlier, he had been caught for installing police lights and sirens on his car.
Lin told police that he modified his car because he was afraid of getting caught speeding. He said he thought it would be "convenient for myself" and "satisfied my vanity."
Lin has been punished with 15 days in detention, fined 7,200 yuan, and had 12 points deducted from his driver's license. The police have also ordered the removal and confiscation of the forged license plate, special painting, lights, and sirens.
