(ECNS) -- Young travelers are becoming a driving force in China's red tourism market, with people aged 18 to 35 accounting for more than half of all scenic-site ticket bookings in the first half of 2026, official data showed.
In July, China released its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for building a leading tourism nation, which outlined measures to upgrade red tourism, centered on sites associated with the country's revolutionary history.
Search interest in red tourism products surged more than 130% year on year in the first half of the year, according to a related research report. Interest in scenic-spot ticket bookings increased 86%, while interest in travel itinerary bookings climbed 48%.
The report also highlighted the growing appeal of new experiences, including interactive, mission-based activities, immersive performances staged along visitor routes and nighttime tours.
