Alxa's GI livestock goods make debut in Macao market

(ECNS) -- Cold-chain trucks carrying chilled meat from Alxa League in northern China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region entered Macao through Gongbei Port on Wednesday, marking the debut of Alxa’s three signature livestock products in Macao.

Alxa Bactrian camels and Gobi Desert white cashmere goats are national GI products listed under the China-EU GI agreement, giving the league competitive livestock resources.

Macao has strict meat access standards and rigorous quarantine procedures. Local authorities spent four months aligning their requirements with Macao’s meat import rules and developed the region’s first processing company qualified to export meat there.

Hao Quanlong, deputy chief of Alxa Customs, said customs teams went through Macao’s regulatory requirements item by item to help the company complete registration, declaration and qualification procedures.

Alxa League has built a complete local supply chain covering breeding, processing, cold chain, sales and supervision, ending its previous practice of exporting only raw materials.
