(ECNS) -- China's earthquake agency and an Egyptian research institute have signed a memorandum of understanding on earthquake disaster reduction, the China Earthquake Administration said Tuesday.
The China Earthquake Administration signed the memorandum with Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, which is under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The two sides will cooperate on early warning technology, experience sharing and system development. Under China's foreign aid framework, they will also work to implement an earthquake early warning system project in Egypt.
Located near the junction of the African, Arabian and Eurasian plates, Egypt faces significant earthquake risks and hopes to draw on China's technology and experience.
China has built the world's largest earthquake monitoring and early warning network, serving more than 500 million people and more than 100 industry users. It has issued more than 900 early warning messages, providing a foundation for further cooperation, according to the administration.
