(ECNS) — The first batch of specialty vehicles assembled in the Xizang Autonomous Region rolled off a production line on Friday at an industrial park in Qonggyai County, Shannan City, a first for the region’s specialty vehicle manufacturing industry.

The vehicles were produced by Xizang Chengli Automobile Manufacturing, which was established in July 2025 and is based in Qonggyai County.

The first production line can provide about 100 jobs, said Zhang Li, chairman of Xizang Chengli Automobile Manufacturing. Once the second line is completed, the workforce is expected to reach 150. As the company gradually expands into new energy and hydrogen energy businesses, it expects to create 500 jobs.

The company has also partnered with local vocational schools to provide training opportunities for students in automotive repair and other related fields, helping develop technical talent for Xizang’s automotive industry.

Nyima, a farmer and herder from Qonggyai County, works as a welder at the company. He said he had taught himself welding before joining the company. He now earns more than 8,000 yuan ($1,100) a month, allowing him to work close to home.

Zhang said the company will focus on the needs of the plateau market and continue developing specialty vehicles suited to high-altitude conditions and large day-night temperature swings, while gradually expanding its product range.

Local authorities said the project is expected to create more local jobs and increase incomes, while promoting the development of upstream and downstream industries, including auto parts supply and maintenance services. They said it also would support economic development in Qonggyai County and help strengthen Xizang's industrial system.
