6-year-old Chinese girl breaks Rubik's Cube world record twice in three days

(ECNS) -- A 6-year-old Chinese girl has broken the women's 3x3 Rubik's Cube average world record twice in three days, clocking 4.52 seconds and 4.27 seconds at two WCA-sanctioned competitions in Wuhan and Guangzhou.

On Sept. 12, Lian Yunyi set a new record with an average of 4.52 seconds at the WCA Wuhan Danqiu Rubik's Cube Competition. Just two days later, she surpassed it at the WCA Guangzhou Speedcubing Competition IV, finishing with an average of 4.27 seconds. She is now the only female speedcuber worldwide with an average under 4.5 seconds.

Lian has mastered more than 1,300 solving algorithms and trains for two to three hours a day. Her mother Lin Yangxi said the practice has helped improve Lian's concentration, memory, logical thinking and spatial awareness. "She used to be very introverted. Now, she is confident wherever she goes," Lin said.
