(ECNS) -- Huangzhuang Village in Hebei Province, known as China’s “Mooncake Village,” exported its handmade mooncakes in bulk for the first time this year, receiving positive feedback from overseas markets.
The village has produced handmade mooncakes since the 1960s and 1970s. In recent years, its products have gone viral online for their homemade flavor and simple packaging, with peak daily output at leading enterprises surpassing 200,000 packs.
Han Baowen, general manager of a local firm, said more than 20,000 packs were shipped to Australia in July, followed by 30,000 packs to South Korea in late August. Another 30,000 packs were dispatched to South Korea on Monday, with total export value exceeding 1 million yuan ($138,700).
The shipment to Australia sold out within seven days, while the South Korean batch was purchased in just three.
Han said the firm selected classic flavors for overseas markets. Packaging is designed to meet export requirements, with ingredient labels printed in local languages alongside Chinese markings, aiming to raise global awareness of the "Mooncake Village."
Tian Yafeng, a village cadre, noted that producers have reduced oil and sugar and introduced tea-flavored and medicinal mooncakes to create a distinctive style.
Huangzhuang mooncake output exceeded 100 million yuan in 2025. The village now has 113 mooncake manufacturers, forming a larger industrial cluster.
