(ECNS) -- The Global Public Security Index Report (2025-2026) was released Thursday at a press conference for the 2026 Conference of Global Public Security Cooperation Forum in Lianyungang, east China's Jiangsu Province.

The index uses a 100-point scale, with higher scores indicating better public security. This year's study covered 62 countries, accounting for 82.73% of the global population, 75.22% of land area and 87.47% of economic output. It published scores for 20 countries with relatively high safety governance levels based on data calculations.

The average score of the 62 countries was 72.56 in 2026, slightly up from last year. Ten countries, including China, Singapore and Uzbekistan, scored 80 or above, while 28 scored between 70 and 79.99 and the remaining 24 scored below 70. China's score of 84.62 ranked first.

This year added a special study on social stability, further enriching the methods for measuring public security. The index builds a scientific evaluation model based on traditional and non-traditional security, technology-derived risks and cross-border hidden dangers. It aims to objectively present global public security governance and trends, providing data support and scientific decision-making references for countries to improve governance systems and risk prevention strategies.
