(ECNS) -- The opening ceremony of the 2026 Chinese Culture Land was held on Sunday in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Around 400 local primary and secondary students from diverse ethnic backgrounds gathered to kick off a 10-day cultural exchange program.
The event is hosted by the Beijing Chinese Language and Culture College and organized by the Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah. Twelve teachers from Beijing will offer courses on Chinese drumming, martial arts, dance, calligraphy, painting and folk crafts to help students experience traditional Chinese culture.
During the opening ceremony, China’s Consul General in Kota Kinabalu Zhu Xinglong highlighted the deep cultural ties between China and Malaysia. Malaysian-Chinese literature, local operas with Fujian and Guangdong styles, and lion dances all show the close cultural connections between China and Malaysia. He encouraged students in Sabah to learn well and understand its core spirit.
The carnival serves as a window of exchange, helping Malaysian youth learn about Chinese history and development while allowing Chinese teachers to experience Sabah’s multicultural society.
