(ECNS) -- A recent report reveals that the efficiency gains from DeepSeek algorithms have not reduced the demand for computing power. On the contrary, the growing number of users and application scenarios has driven the adoption of large AI models, accelerating the expansion of data centers and reshaping innovation in the AI industry.

The China Artificial Intelligence Computing Power Development Assessment Report 2025, jointly released by International Data Corporation and China’s provider of cloud computing and big data services Inspur, projects that by 2025, China’s general computing power and AI computing power will reach 85.8 EFLOPS (a unit for measuring the speed of a computer system) and 1037.3 EFLOPS, 20 percent and 43 percent respectively higher than those of the last year.

The report forecasts a compound annual growth rate of 46.2 percent for AI computing and 18.8 percent for general computing from 2023 to 2028.

Liu Jun, senior vice president of Inspur, stated at the report release event that the launch of the DeepSeek series models will accelerate AI adoption and significantly boost the demand for computing power.

The report also provides a comprehensive evaluation of China’s AI computing power, including computing structure, regional distribution, and industry penetration.

According to the report, Beijing, Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province, and Shanghai lead the list of Chinese AI cities in 2024, followed by Shenzhen and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province, Nanjing in Jiangsu, Chengdu in Sichuan, Jinan in Shandong, Tianjin Municipality, and Xiamen in Fujian rounding out the top 10.
