(ECNS) -- Shenzhen Customs on Wednesday said it has inspected 630 thousand tons of vegetables destined for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on average annually in the past 25 years since 1997.

According to customs officials, more than 90 percent of vegetables delivered to the HKSAR market have been provided by the mainland since the 1950s.

It benefits from the promotion of fast customs clearanceat Shenzhen-Hong Kong highway ports, shortening the shipment time compared to previous rail transport.

In the past 25 years, Shenzhen Customs has cultivated a batch of enterprises that can supply vegetables to Hong Kong in the long term, and set up high-level vegetable farms in coordination with mainland customs, an official said.

All vegetables provided to Hong Kong will be supervised and checked by Shenzhen Customs before export, with the qualification rate for these products remaining above 99 percent all year round, it was added.
