(ECNS) -- Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and upholding the one-China principle is a prevailing consensus in the international community and a common political foundation for people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said Wednesday.
Chen made the remarks at a regular press conference when asked to comment on Taiwanese entertainer Kevin Tsai's appearance at the inauguration ceremony of the campaign headquarters of Shen Po-yang, a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate for Taipei mayor.
Chen said Shen, a die-hard "Taiwan independence" separatist, is known for his words and deeds of separatism. Any form of "Taiwan independence" separatist activity seriously harms the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation, and China firmly opposes such activities, Chen noted.
China has always respected and protected the legitimate freedom of speech and expression of Taiwan compatriots, Chen said, adding that there is no room for ambiguity on issues of right and wrong.
Safeguarding national reunification and opposing "Taiwan independence" represent the common will of all Chinese people. No person or force can seek to reap the benefits of the mainland's development while colluding with "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and acting as a "two-faced" person, Chen said.
