Hong Kong has detected zero serious pneumonia case related to those in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province, said Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam on Tuesday.

By Tuesday morning, Hong Kong hospitals had reported 68 patient cases, 56 of which had been discharged from hospital. And none of those 68 patients were related to the viral pneumonia cases in the central Chinese city, Lam said at a press briefing.

Hong Kong health authorities and the Chinese mainland counterparts had established communication channels for many years and on this particular occasion, those communication channels had been operating, Lam said.

"We have received information about the genome sequence so that our experts could look at whether we could put in place faster systems to identify the virus," Lam said, noting that Hong Kong experts were invited to Wuhan to understand how local authorities were dealing with the situation.
