A gunman was shot dead by police who held 31 people hostage on a bus in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, local media reported.
All the passengers have been safely released.
The hours-long hijacking happened around 6:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday, when the bus was commandeered by the gunman on a bridge connecting Rio with the neighboring city of Niteroi.
There is currently no word on the purpose of the incident.
