No Chinese citizens were injured in the robbery at the Inkaterra Hotel in Madre de Dios, Peru, on Tuesday night local time, according to the Chinese Embassy in Peru.

The embassy immediately launched the emergency response mechanism and will continue to follow up on the development of the incident.

According to the investigation, some 10 gang members with guns robbed the hotel, in which 41 Chinese tourists have checked in. The gangsters escaped after killing a local tour guide.

Other tourists from the hotel were forced to evacuate. Local police are hunting down the criminals.

It's reported that Luis Hidalgo Okimura, the regional governor of Madre de Dios, described the robbery as a "worrying situation."

The Chinese Embassy in Peru reminds Chinese citizens in Peru to raise their safety awareness. Once there is an emergency, Chinese citizens in Peru are advised to report to local police by dialing 105 and 117. Phone numbers for the embassy's consular protection and Chinese Foreign Ministry's global consular protection and emergency desk are respectively +51-995203968 and +86-10-12308 or +86-10-59913991.
