The New York Police Department (NYPD) has been gathering evidence for an arrest warrant, after it received a "credible" rape allegation against U.S. film producer Harvey Weinstein.

American actress Paz de la Huerta, who starred in the HBO drama "Boardwalk Empire," told New York police that Weinstein raped her in her apartment twice in 2010. She gave a detailed account on her experience to Vanity Fair, which was published on Thursday.

At a press conference Friday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce called the allegation "credible and detailed," because the woman could "articulate each movement of the crime, where she was, where this happened."

Boyce noted that in the nine days since the actress gave her report to them, they have corroborated parts of her allegations and subpoenas have been issued.

Allegations of sexual misconduct against Weinstein were first exposed by New York Times on Oct. 5. Over the past month, more than 60 women have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment or assault.

So far at least 13 have filed sexual assault reports with police in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, New York and London. Police in the above four cities have opened investigations.

New York prosecutors will ultimately decide whether to charge Weinstein. Detectives are also working together with NYPD, according to Boyce.
