Jinjiang Taxi Company yesterday fired one of its drivers after he allegedly sexually harassed a teenage passenger.
The 14-year-old girl said she was taking the taxi home from school early because she was running a fever when the driver put his hand on her thigh.
The girl, who was riding in the front seat, took a picture of his hand on her person with her mobile phone and texted it to her mother via WeChat, an instant-messaging service, asking for help.
“The driver keeps touching me,” she wrote. “I’m approaching home. Please come pick me up.”
As the taxi pulled up, the girl’s parents were waiting.
Her parents angrily accused the driver of interfering with the teen and the driver, denying the accusation, hurriedly drove away with the passenger door still open.
Jinjiang Taxi Company apologized for the incident and promised to improve its training of drivers.
