The world's first subway line section equipped with 5G networks has passed tests and is set to enter trial service soon in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province, China Mobile said in a statement sent to the Global Times on Monday.

The achievement is considered indicative of China's leadership in 5G, industry watchers said.

The network tests, covering part of the city's subway line 10, starting from Taipingyuan Station to Cujin Station, are the foundation for the 5G-enabled construction of the whole route. The line will link with Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, which already has 5G network service, said the China Mobile statement.

Visitors from all over the world can get a look at scenic spots as soon as they arrive - for instance, the giant panda base and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System - through 5G plus virtual reality, the statement said.

The subway line signifies that China's 5G network constructions has entered the fast lane and China is racing ahead of 5G technology applications, Xiang Ligang, a veteran industry analyst, told the Global Times on Monday.

"Together with initiations of other 5G technology application projects all over the nation, it is like small dots that can be linked together and shape the mega 5G network construction program of the country," he said.
