Chinese automaker Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC) has officially launched its brand onto the Ghanaian market, unveiling a fleet of its latest sophisticated automobiles for the local market.

The nine new models, launched late Wednesday, included premium SUV GS8, family SUV S7, flagship MPV M8, smart SUV EMZOOM, and all-electric SUV AION V, ranging from internal combustion energy, electric, and hybrid-powered.

Julius Debrah, chief of staff at the office of Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, performed the official launch, declaring that Ghana has become the leading user of electric vehicles (EVs) in Africa with over 17,000 individual vehicles registered.

Debrah lauded GAC for choosing Ghana as its gateway to the subregion of West Africa, urging them to explore the opportunities available in the local market.

Ye Xinjian, country manager of GAC International Automobile Sales Service Company Limited, said with 29 years in the business and more than 30 million customers, GAC is entering the Ghanaian market as a partner with real strength, real sincerity, and a real long-term view.

Ye added that GAC does not enter markets to sell and leave but enters to stay and is going to build service networks, charging infrastructure, and eventually explore local manufacturing in Ghana.

He highlighted that with Ghana's lithium reserves, the country possesses what it takes to partner with the Chinese automobile manufacturer for the long term.

Obrempong Nana Bonsu Agyekum Prempeh, president of the Chamber of Automobile Dealership Ghana, said GAC's entrance into Ghana testifies to the continuous transformation of the country's automotive industry and the changing expectations of Ghanaian customers.

According to Agyekum Prempeh, the Chinese automobile manufacturer is entering the Ghanaian landscape with a hallmark of quality and strong global reputation.

"The combination of GAC's established automotive capabilities and emphasis on technology and product quality carries a significant potential to broaden consumer preference, strengthen competition, encourage higher standards, and contribute to the next phase of automotive growth in Ghana," he emphasized.

The launch received endorsement from a number of different local automobile dealers.
