'Summer Davos' to focus on preparing leaders for new era of globalization

The Annual Meeting of the New Champions is part of the World Economic Forum, themed "Leadership 4.0: Succeeding in a New Era of Globalization," will be held from July 1 to 3. More than 1,800 leaders from government, business, civil society and academia will gather in Dalian next week for this year’s meeting and discuss fundamental changes that are reshaping the global economy. 

David Aikman, Chief Representative Officer of Greater China of WEF, said this year's theme is really focused on leadership skill, which means you need to survive and succeed in the new era of globalization. 

"Today's headlines are always about competitions, while beyond the headlines, where's the cooperation and collaboration? The increasing competitions create equality, within these context, we want to help leaders to develop skills they need to grow their countries and regions,” he said. 

David specially mentioned China has great examples to share with the world, adding that the meeting lets global leaders see how China creates sustainable smart cities and the financial market reform process.

While Jin Guowei, vice mayor of Dalian, said the meeting to be hosted in the city will not only showcase the world China's development and achievements, but also demonstrate its spirit and operation capacity. 

Within the globalization progress, as well economic globalization, is an irreversible trend. Li Bin, counsel for the department of international cooperation at the National Development and Reform Commission, said China will continue to be a committed champion, joining hands with stakeholders to safeguard world economic openness and inclusion.  

"We hope the sharing of views would provide strong momentum for China's quality economic growth and global well-being," Li added.  

This year's session is less than a week away, hot topics include achieving scaling up strategic technologies, using 5G responsibly, rethinking capitalism, and accelerating the clean tech transition.
