Special: 2nd Belt and Road Forum

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for China and Mozambique to be committed to promoting mutually beneficial Belt and Road cooperation during his meeting with Mozambique's President Filipe Nyusi at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Wednesday.

President Xi welcomed Nyusi's attendance to the second Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation.

He said Mozambique has played an active role in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in recent years.

Noting that the two countries have reached an agreement on jointly promoting the Belt and Road cooperation plans, Xi called for the two countries to develop mutually-beneficial cooperation and strengthen cultural exchanges. China-Mozambique traditional friendship should be inherited and carried forward, he said

On his side, Nyusi first thanked China's disaster relief efforts to his country after Cyclone Idai triggered massive flood in March. Nyusi said the BRI is not only beneficial to the world's economic recovery and growth but important to Mozambique and the whole African continent.

Mozambique is willing to play an active role in promoting the BRI in Africa, and is also willing to enhance the strategic partnership with China and expand cooperation in various areas, Nyusi added.

After the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents.
