China will further improve ideological and political work at colleges, according to the attendees of a symposium on the issue Friday.

Huang Kunming, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, delivered a speech at the symposium, acknowledging the progress in the work made over the past year.

He asked for adherence to the new missions and requirements put forward at the 19th CPC National Congress in October, and the comprehensive implementation of the Party's policies on education.

Huang called for the inclusion of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in college textbooks and classes, as well as the cultivation of talent who can take on the tasks of national rejuvenation.

Presiding over the symposium, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong asked colleges and relevant departments across the country to focus on the new requirements and tasks in order to build colleges that are in line with socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

Chen Xi, head of the CPC Central Committee Organization Department, also attended the symposium.

At a national conference on ideological and political work in China's universities and colleges in December 2016, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said ideological work in colleges should be integrated into the entire education process, underlining the need of firm Party leadership in higher education.
