An aircraft carrier was seen flying over the skies of Weifang, East China's Shandong Province on Saturday, but there was no cause for alarm. It was a kite taking part in the opening ceremony of the city's 36th International Kite Festival.
The aircraft carrier kite included models of airplanes on the deck of the giant ship. One of them appears ready to take off.
A video posted on social media drew a lot of comments about the peculiar-shaped kite.
Some netizens suggested the kite was the Chinese equivalent of S.H.I.E.L.D., a counter-terrorism agency from American comic by Marvel Comics. "It seems like S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming," a netizen wrote.
A giant kite of about 960 square meters was also popular. It was the shape of China's national flag.
Kite festival officials said the largest kite in the world which is about 3,200 square meters, made its first appearance at the festival. It required a forklift to lift.
