The site of the Battle of Mount Song during World War II in Yunnan Province has become a place well-remembered by people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

The battle, which took place in the city of Baoshan in 1944, was part of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945).

Over 4,800 people from Taiwan have visited the battle site over the past five years, according to the local government.

The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council has approved the establishment of a cross-strait exchange base at the site, with the construction of supporting facilities underway. More than 60 such bases have been set up on the Chinese mainland.
