Renowned British producer David Heyman will collaborate with Alibaba Pictures, the movie division of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, as a producer on the studio's new fantasy blockbuster Warriors, according to a press release sent to the Global Times on Sunday.

Heyman's producer credits include the recently released Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the Harry Potter films and the 2014 Oscar-winning film Gravity.

"Heyman is the perfect pick to produce the film," said Alibaba Pictures President Zhang Wei in the statement. "His talent and experience in filmmaking is sure to make Warriors a world-class blockbuster."

The film is based on the best-selling fantasy novel series Warriors, written by a group of British writers including Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry under the pseudonym of Erin Hunter.

Featuring the adventures of several clans of warrior cats, the series is highly popular around the world with 30 million copies sold in 32 languages so far, according to UK-based fiction packager Working Partners, the creator of the series.

Zhang promised the series' fans that the film won't disappoint.

Heyman expressed his excitement at joining the film in the press release, saying that he was very attracted to the story.

According to the release, a deal for the film rights was signed in October between Alibaba Pictures, Working Partners and its parent company Coolabi Group Limited at the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany.
