Police detains husband and mother-in-law in suspected domestic violence death case

(ECNS) -- Police in northern China's Hebei Province have detained a 26-year-old man and his 48-year-old mother over the death of his 25-year-old wife, in a case suspected to involve domestic violence.

The incident occurred on Friday in a residential community in Mengcun County, Cangzhou City.

Following an investigation, police detained Liu's husband, Jin (male, 26), as a suspect, along with Jin's mother, Zhang (female, 48), for allegedly helping destroy or fabricate evidence. Both are currently under criminal detention.

A forensic examination confirmed that Liu died from cranial injuries caused by blunt force trauma and was not pregnant at the time of death. The police are working with women's rights protection departments to further investigate claims of domestic abuse.

A representative from the Mengcun County Women's Federation said that they had not previously received any reports of domestic violence from the victim.

On Monday, staff from the Mengcun County People's Procuratorate told media that Jin was a labor-dispatched employee at the local procuratorate, working as an ordinary staff member. Jin did not hold a civil servant status or a police badge, the staff member added.
