(ECNS) -- China's Embassy in the UK said it is working on verifying news reports that Chinese student bank accounts have been frozen for suspected money laundering.

Ninety-five bank accounts belonging to Chinese students at UK universities have been frozen over fears they have been used by criminals to launder millions of pounds, according to media reports.

In a statement, the embassy said it has urged British authorities to handle the allegations in a fair and lawful manner.

The embassy reminded Chinese citizens to fully cooperate with the investigation and safeguard their legitimate rights and interests through legal means.
