A recent report about nighttime consumption among China's white-collar workers has shown that 40 percent spend most of their evenings growing the market potential for the country's nighttime economy, the news website cyol.com reported.

The report released by Zhilian Recruitment, one of China's biggest recruitment websites, and Meituan Dianping, a Yelp-like Chinese online city guide, was based on a survey carried out between July to August on a sample of 6,895 respondents.

Although 82.8 percent of white-collar workers choose to stay at home and only 5.2 percent of them have the habit of spending their after-work time outside, this didn't stop those who were indoors from spending.

The Internet Plus life services brings more nighttime business activities such as online delivery food, shopping and other services. Independent movie theatres and night catering among the after-dusk economic activities are some of the key drivers behind the development of nighttime economy.

For those who favoured nights out, the primary deciding factor was traffic or commuting convenience.

The report also revealed that 58 percent of white-collar workers believed the night consumption should be a means of stress relief and enjoying life.
