A Swedish court has rejected a request to detain WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in absentia over rape charges, Sputnik reported on Monday.

The request was filed on May 20 by the Swedish prosecutor heading an investigation into a rape allegation against Assange, who denies it.

He was arrested in London in April after spending seven years inside the Ecuadorean embassy. Last month, he was sentenced to 50 weeks in prison by a British court for skipping bail after fleeing to the embassy.
