China's military and armed police have been ordered to carefully study the remarks made by President Xi Jinping at a gathering to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Long March.

According to a circular issued by the general office of the Central Military Commission (CMC), published Monday, the CMC called on officers and soldiers to study and understand the remarks by Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CMC.

Officers and soldiers should understand the significance of the Long March to the history of the Party, the country and the Army, the circular said.

The circular called on the armed forces to follow Xi's requirement that they must carry forth the spirit of the Long March as the nation embarks on its "new long march."

The document also stressed the importance of the CPC's leadership in the "new long march."
