It is listed among China's first batch of national-level anti-war memorial facilities and sites.

The Battle of Shanggao was a decisive victory for Chinese forces in the Anti-Japanese War. After over 20 days of large-scale combat in Shanggao, the Chinese army inflicted over 15,000 casualties on the Japanese troops, marking another major triumph following victories at battles such as Pingxingguan and Taierzhuang.
