(ECNS) -- Heavy snow hit Qiqihar City in northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province on Wednesday and Thursday, prompting railway stations along the Binzhou, Qibei, Pingqi and Funen lines to step up snow removal to keep trains running.
Stations in Qiqihar operated by China Railway Harbin Group quickly mobilized staff to clear snow to keep freight and passenger service running safely.
At Qiqihar Railway Station, workers used snow blowers and shovels to clear tracks and switches around the clock and kept platforms, exits, waiting hall entrances and underpasses free of snow. The station also made more frequent announcements reminding passengers to watch their step.
Fuyu Railway Station launched its emergency response after the snowfall, clearing snow as it accumulated, said Guo Jia, the station's deputy stationmaster. Staff placed anti-slip mats and warning signs at entrances, overpasses and platform edges and were assigned to guide passengers. Workers also combined manual and mechanical methods to clear key track switches, keeping them working reliably and trains running safely.
