(ECNS) -- A ceremony was held Monday in Qufu, Shandong Province, to commemorate the 2,577th anniversary of Confucius' birth, drawing participants from China and abroad.
Confucius, born in what is now Qufu during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), was a great Chinese thinker and educator and the founder of the Confucian school of thought.
The celebrations also feature the 2026 Nishan Forum on World Civilizations and the 2026 China International Confucius Cultural Festival.
The cultural festival runs from Sept. 28 to Oct. 7, featuring study tours and traditional folk activities that bring Confucian culture to life.
The Nishan Forum on World Civilizations opened Monday under the theme “Civilization, Order and Justice”. First held in 2010, the forum features keynote speeches, high-level interviews and panel discussions and has become a platform for international cultural exchanges.
The two events complement each other, with the forum focusing on academic dialogue and the cultural festival emphasizing public participation and cultural experiences.
