(ECNS) -- Competitors from Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, won seven gold medals and one Medal for Excellence at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, which concluded Sunday, according to the Guangzhou Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.
The nine competitors competed in eight events. Their seven gold medals accounted for more than half of Guangdong Province's total and about one-sixth of China's gold medals, giving Guangzhou the highest number of gold medals among Chinese cities.
Guangzhou competitor Ou Zu'an claimed gold in fine carpentry after spending 22 hours crafting a solid-wood handrail staircase. His victory secured a second consecutive world title for Guangzhou in the event
"I'm very happy. I didn't let down all the years of training," Ou said.
In Computer-aided mechanical design, Guangzhou competitor Song Junye secured gold with accurate 3D modeling and rigorous, standardized design.
In robot systems integration, Guangzhou made history at the 47th competition when its competitors Li Haoyang and Luo Jiewei won gold on the city's first appearance in the event.
The duo completed tasks including automobile welding, helping Guangzhou retain its strength in the event after its breakthrough gold at the previous competition.
Lan Duancheng won Guangzhou's first gold medal in the software testing event, while Liu Kaiwen took gold in digital interactive media, transforming creative concepts into a smooth and immersive user experience through strong programming skills and design execution.
