China moves to standardize health and comfort testing for NEVs

 

(ECNS) -- China is working to include motion sickness and other health concerns associated with new energy vehicles (NEVs) in standardized testing and evaluation. 

Liu Lu, an associate research fellow at the Research Institute of Highway under the Ministry of Transport, said NEVs may be more likely to cause motion sickness than conventional vehicles due to differences in acceleration and energy recovery systems. The issue is particularly relevant to taxis and ride-hailing vehicles.

Researchers are also studying the impact of in-vehicle lighting, including displays and infrared driver monitoring cameras, on eye health.

Based on animal studies, eye examinations and light-intensity tests, they are working to establish exposure limits for future NEV standards.
