China's first cross-sea suburban railway begins operation

(ECNS) -- China's first cross-sea suburban railway, the Ningbo-Xiangshan line, began operation on Tuesday in east China's Zhejiang Province.

Stretching 61.45 kilometers from Xiaoyangjiang Station in Ningbo's Yinzhou District to Damuwan Station in Xiangshan County, the line includes 10 stations. Trains, formed by four car sets of suburban Type-A units, can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

The opening ends Xiangshan Peninsula's history without rail transit. Speeding across the Xiangshan Port Cross-Sea Bridge, the line creates a fast commuting corridor between downtown Ningbo and Xiangshan, bringing the two areas into a half-hour transportation circle. Officials said the project injects new momentum into coordinated development in southern Ningbo.
